Taking Action On Junk Food Marketing

HAT_Take Action on Junk Food messages.png

We know that the marketing and advertising of junk food and drink influences children’s choices and consumption, and contributes to obesity. Our children are twice as likely to see unhealthy food being advertised as healthy food, up to nine ads per hour.

Healthy Auckland Together has a comic, created by comic artist Toby Morris, to tell the story about why children need to be protected from the ubiquitous marketing of unhealthy food and drink. Click here to learn more about Taking Action on Junk Food Marketing.

Healthy Families Waitākere is part of Healthy Auckland Together - a coalition of 26 organisations representing local government, mana whenua, health agencies, NGOs, university and consumer interest groups.

By working together to change policy, infrastructure design and planning, our environments can encourage physical activity and good nutrition. This means looking across the whole system - transport, urban planning, food supply and retail, education and business, so all Aucklanders benefit.

Easy Choice developed out of an initiative started by Healthy Families Waitākere and the Fresh Choice supermarkets in Ranui and Glen Eden in West Auckland that offered all of the ingredients for the five dinners in the meal planner for a family of six at a guaranteed price of $60.

The local initiative has grown and in now led by Love Food Hate Waste nationally.

The summer edition of Easy Choice is now available.
