We love seeing sports clubs stepping up to spread healthy messages and create opportunities for whanau to be active together.
Every Saturday morning from 9am, the Western Magpies Softball Club are offering free tee-ball and rookie-ball to local kids in an effort to get the community moving.
Club chairman Tua Raroa says he saw a need to create an opportunity for children in west Auckland to "have a go" at a new sport.
The program, based at Brains Park in Kelston, is aimed at children under 11-years-old. Rookie-ball introduces the players to the concept of hitting a moving target and involves an adult pitcher.
"We actively create an environment which promotes health and wellbeing and we strongly encourage water as the best choice of drink while being active." says Raroa.
