Royal Road School has been a water-only school for ten years and serves reduced fat milk as the only other drink option. Being water-only has become part of the schools philosophy and the children have easy access in and out of the classroom, throughout the school day.
Schools that have moved to being water-only (water and plain reduced fat milk are the only drinks available) have seen that it benefits teaching and learning. Attendance, attention, behaviour, and levels of concentration are all increased in schools where healthy eating has become accepted practice.
The Ministries of Education and Health are encouraging all schools across New Zealand to get rid of sugary drinks and have a water-only policy. Read the article here
